Why an event calendar?
You’re in the pre-production, planning phase of a project. While scheduling auditions you suspect a couple of other theater companies may be holding auditions for similar projects, that same day. The real trouble is you don’t remember just who they are. Well… what if you could view the audition and performance schedules for all the New Jersey community theater companies, all at once? Wouldn’t it would be great to simply access a single website and see who was producing what, and when? How much more effective could your planning be for your production: audition and performance timetables; anticipating the availability of performers, designers, and crew—and, for that matter, what shows you can arrange to see and support yourself?
Why indeed?
We produce a lot of great theater here in New Jersey. We’re all drawing from the same well of talent, and building audiences from the same pool of theater-goers. So much is accomplished on a volunteer basis. Picture how much stronger our theater community can become―and how much more mutual support would be available―if we can stagger our scheduling efforts by sharing production plans.
And so we present to you the Jersey Theater Event Calendar. Give it a test drive. Use it for a project or two and send us your comments and suggestions. Let’s collaborate. Let’s see what we can build. Let’s discover how we can better help ourselves, and each other.

Who are we?
We’re a group of theater geeks who have produced a slew of projects between us. We've also run into plenty of quandaries when planning auditions and performances, and accessing resources, all in a primarily volunteer environment. After a lot of muttering and grumbling about the situation, the decision was made to create a solution. Discussions were held and meetings convened. Brainstorming occurred. Ideas were bandied about. How to streamline the scheduling process so everyone can make the best use of all available resources? Avoid schedule overlap and free up time to better support each other’s projects? Make things easier overall? How about something electronic? Visual? Easily accessed? How about a website with one-stop-shopping!

The Event Calendar was borne of these conversations and we’re excited to give it a run. Our greatest hope is that it helps all of us in the New Jersey theater world to better communicate amongst ourselves, support each other’s efforts, and ultimately build an even stronger presence in our local communities.
